Black Lives Matter: Then, Now And Always

To The Darlings Jewelry Community:

Across the US, we are all witnessing repeated injustices against the Black community - from police brutality at-large to the collective grief of Black lives lost. We have no alternative but to demand change. We stand in solidarity with your pain, frustration, and desire for resolve. Racism, injustice and inequality that hold members of our community back, hold us all back. Our differences strengthen us, and together, we must champion individuality and all of its diverse forms

There are many different ways to do your part in this movement, signing petitions, educating yourself, speaking up, and having potentially difficult conversations with friends, family and colleagues about institutionalized racism are all good places to start - but you can also donate if you are in the financial position to do so.

Donating funds is a great way to give people the financial resources to make necessary changes for progress to occur. Here are some places to start, from US-based causes to memorial funds and petitions. We have also added options for those who are not in a position to make a monetary donation.

The link below will be your most helpful resource when deciding where to donate, how to help and educate yourself on the depths of this movement. It lists the most helpful links with plenty of other resources. We HIGHLY recommend you check out this website. The link will be attached in the below photo.

George Floyd's Memorial Fund

Following the homicide of George Floyd, his family set up the below fund to cover funeral and burial expenses, counselling, accommodation and travel for court proceedings, and for the benefit, care and education of his children.

Black Lives Matter

This organization began in 2013 following the death of Trayvon Martin, and the acquittal of the white man who fatally shot him, George Zimmerman. It operates in the US, Canada and the UK, organizing, creating petitions, intervening on violence on Black communities and "creating space for Black imagination and innovation, and centring Black joy".

Minnesota Freedom Fund

With a mission to pay "criminal bail and immigration bond for those who cannot afford to, as we seek to end discriminatory, coercive, and oppressive jailing", this charity has so far raised over $20 million to pay bail for those who protested the murder of George Floyd, and then "to post bail in our community for those who are held pretrial simply because they cannot pay and to post bonds to free people from ICE detention".

For Those Who Don't Have The Funds To Donate

Luckily, we live in a time where we have so much access to platforms, information and millions of people. If you don't have the funds to donate, no need to worry. There are ways you can contribute to the Black Lives Matter cause. The most ingenious that's turned up so far is simply by watching YouTube videos. It's simple: all the advertising revenue that a channel would get from a single video is donated to Black Lives Matter and related fundraising campaigns helping the fight for justice.

YouTuber Zoe Amira was the first to come up with the idea, filling a 45-minute video with black art and artists. When watching, make sure to not skip the advertisements. The money from these ads will go directly to the BLM.

 Petitions

Petitions seriously are so easy to fill out. It takes seconds. All you have to do is fill out your email address, name, zip code and you're set. These petitions are so important because not only does it raise awareness of the issues, it also demonstrates the number of people who want a change. Below, we will list a few of the many important petitions to be signed.

To close, we'd like to reiterate that  https://blacklivesmatters.carrd.co/#petitions has the many more petitions, donation links and information. Please check out the website.

Black lives matter then, now and always.
